Northwest accelerated road improvements update - October 2020

|

Due to the impacts of COVID-19 on Auckland Transport and the wider Auckland Council whānau. budget, the Trig Road upgrade, Redhills east-west connections and Redhills north-south connections projects are delayed and have now been put on hold.

COVID-19 has had a significant impact on Auckland Transport and the wider Auckland Council whānau. As a result, Auckland Council is implementing an Emergency Budget which has reduced Auckland Transport’s budget.

Unfortunately, this means that the Trig Road upgrade, Redhills east-west connections and Redhills north-south connections projects are delayed and have now been put on hold. Planning and preparation to lodge the Notices of Requirement (NoR) are dependent on future funding decisions.

Key Connections

Key transport connections will be needed in Whenuapai and Redhills to support the increased growth and development that is planned for these areas. These connections are:

  • Trig Road upgrade project
  • Redhills east-west connections project
  • Redhills north-south connections project

What we've done to date

We've met with stakeholders, developers, and potentially affected property owners to discuss these projects.

Some site investigations have been carried out to inform our designs for these projects and to assist with the preparation of the Notices of Requirement to support the route protection (e.g. designation) process.

What is route protection?

Route protection is a planning process that enables land to be protected for future construction and operation of necessary infrastructure such as transport networks.  This provides certainty to landowners and developers about where these Whenuapai and Redhills connections will be located.

Next steps

The applications for the NoR route protection for each of these projects and resource consent applications for the Trig Road project will be dependent on future funding decisions.
