COVID-19 has had a significant impact on Auckland Transport and the wider Auckland Council whānau. As a result, Auckland Council is implementing an Emergency Budget which has reduced Auckland Transport’s budget.
Unfortunately, this means that the Trig Road upgrade, Redhills east-west connections and Redhills north-south connections projects are delayed and have now been put on hold. Planning and preparation to lodge the Notices of Requirement (NoR) are dependent on future funding decisions.

We've met with stakeholders, developers, and potentially affected property owners to discuss these projects.
Some site investigations have been carried out to inform our designs for these projects and to assist with the preparation of the Notices of Requirement to support the route protection (e.g. designation) process.
What is route protection?
Route protection is a planning process that enables land to be protected for future construction and operation of necessary infrastructure such as transport networks. This provides certainty to landowners and developers about where these Whenuapai and Redhills connections will be located.
